Las Vegas is a perfect dark, tawdry background, for one of Verdi's cruelest operas, and this doesn't disappoint. Piotr Beczala, A fine Verdi tenor, delivers the Duke with verve, and Diana Damrau doesn't miss a note, even while in a body bag in the trunk of a '65 Cadillac. Of course, there are issues - Monterone enters the house dressed as an Arab, for some reason, when delivering the crucial 'curse' and I suppose we now need to worry about Islamic Jihad protesting the performance. If you're in town, go for it!
