Richard Karl Freiherr von Weizsäcker has passed away. Perhaps the best of the post-War German statesman, he typified the decency and earnestness of a generation that gave unflinching testimony to the past, and demanded a higher level of conduct for the future. I have little doubt how he would have handled Pegida, or the Greek freak show that threatens today's Europe. S.T.T.L. Bundespräsident / Richard von Weizsäcker
