  1. Visitors will be able to commune with their old favorites, and delight or bristle at some curious pairings which have emerged. A Max Beckmann triptych rests pointlessly next to a renaissance Madonna triptych while Dali’s Crucifixion is oddly enriched with Spanish baroque works. Velásquez annd Murillo uphold the grandeur of Spanish painting, Gérard and Prud’hon Talleyrands are elegantly paired, while blue period Picassos keep company with El Greco quite comfortably. David’s superb Lavoisier is flanked with some lesser known French portraits to good effect, and the Socrates is paired with fine busts by Houdon of Voltaire and Diogenes.
