An amuse-bouche with Peter Mattei, who will be replacing Mariusz Kwiecien, who has injured himself in rehearsals in the upcoming Don Giovanni at the Met.
Peter Mattei makes a fine Giovanni. He is as sincere as a nobleman ( although we know that he is not) as he woos Zerlina. One thing that was unrealistic is that Zerlina looks about ten years Don Giovanni's senior. Mattei makes a kind of wicked look with his eyebrows. He will fill Kwiecien's shoes just fine. First Levine, then Kwiecien; is The Met cursed? We'll see.
