Handel's "Salve Regina" is perhaps one of the most beautiful odes to the Blessed Vigin that I have heard. The conductor was good, as it was a relatively big orchestra, but none too big for Carolyn Sampson. She has a beautiful voice that adapts to the three different tempos in this piece, "solemn, upbeat and solemn again.) It was a treat, Jim!
Of course, I meant "the Blessed Virgin" and this typo had to be corrected. Since I am commenting, I am pretty sure that this piece is an ode to Mary, but "Regina" means queen in italian. I have never heard of Mary referred to as anything but "the Virgin", "the Blessed Mother", etc., but never "queen." Beautiful anyway.
