Jim, you were right in my neighborhood today! I don't know what these people want. It looks like The Haight and I am very sure that there are similarities: people who distrust "the establishment" and I'm sure that some of these people were stoned. Nobody has read Adam Smith lately and the President whom they voted for has betrayed them. True that American companies lay off millions of employees while compensating executives at the highest levels in the world. I've been trying to find a part-time job in an art gallery or the performing arts and they just aren't hiring. Do I blame the NYSE? No, and I cannot because a close relative of mine is a senior exec. there. I paid my dues on Wall Street and had a good run and job security at Brown Brothers Harriman. Do I blame the partners now for not finding me a job in the arts? No. There is sometimes a lack of personal responsibility in this country and I don't know what the chanters think that the solution is. Marxism? Socialism? Then expect much higher taxes!

ReplyDeleteI see it more as a "hive mind" situation and doesn't necessarily mean these folks are "stoned". They are unhappy.
