Jim knows a lot more about Nabucco than I, but I know a few things about "Va pensiero." The slaves are jews who have been exiled by Nebuchadnezzar and put to work. The performers in this clip look exhausted and totally forlorn. The audience often empathizes with this piece and Verdi's "jews" have been known to often get standing ovations and they have historically even given encores. What was the action last night, Jim? Any scoop?
