  1. I am glad that I did not get a subscription to The Met this year amidst all of the turmoil. However, I think that we must give Fabio Luisi, the new Principal Conductor, a chance. First of all, he is Italian and they do have a knack for opera. Second, I get distracted from the music anyway by what is happening ostage. What I do not understand is why Levine is returning for Wagner's "Gotterdammerung." If I were coming back from sick leave, I would want to conduct something upbeat like "The Magic Flute" and nothing Wagnerian! Anyway, all said, I am sure that I will find myself at the opera this season by hook or by crook.

  2. Luisi is terrific...remember last year, Levine had to blow off a considerable part of his commitment, and he stepped in, with real skill, so don't hesitate because of him!
Levine came on stage last season to take a bow after Die Walkure, and we were shocked at his frailty. My feeling is he should just take a year off, and try to restore his health, instead of clinging so hard to a schedule he can't make.
