Anne Sofie von Otter, Monteverdi, "Disprezzata regina" (Ottavia)

  1. L'incoronzazione di Poppea, one of Monteverdi's operas that was transitional from Renaissance to the Baroque. As an opera in the Baroque tradition, von Otter sings the part of Octavia in an over-the-top (not a negative comment)aria about "Disprezzata Regina" or "Queen Despised." I even notice a duchess on the stage which was generally furniture for the nobility. von Otter sings with great passion, especially for one so petite that, in a weird way, I worried about her comportment. Splendid! Magnifico! Bravo! Bravo!Grazie, Jim!

  2. I wasn't going to be pedantic, but, at the risk of being called a fool, I know that the piece of furniture on stage is called "a duchesse." I couldn't let this go, because, when I can make the space, I want one for myself!Thank you very much for your consideration.:)
