Mozart: "Ruhe sanft, mein holdes Leben" from Zaide K344

  1. I thought that Sandrine Piau sang beautifully in spite of her matronly dress which did, at times, distract me from the music. Shockingly young conductor! The woodwind instruments were so antiquated looking that at first glance, I thought that they were Native American peacepipes! Seriously, the singing was sublime and it was borderline chamber music with so few instruments. Such beautiful music coming from so few! Enough said.

  2. The conductor looks like a downtown dude, but he's very able, and it's Baroque instrumentation....Diva dress is complicated - traditionally solo singers wear 19th C. dowdy, long skirts, etc. If it's hot looking, they get a collection of useless facebook/youtube styled snark about trying to get by on looks, etc., so it's something of a trap. I never post arias from artists on FB that are friends - can't subject them to that rubbish.
