Are you talking about our Bible Belt? The Catholic Church? Orthodox Jews? I believe that most members of these congregations have been conditioned by their families and, sometimes, local communities. It is not nature like mental retardation. It is nuture. Also the need to belong and a quest for religion and spirituality plays a role. Do I get my reward?
I think that I know what you mean by the Religious Right - the colloquial term for the pseudo political religious movement in this country. I know that I am about to make a lot of enemies now, (please don't defriend me, Jim) but I do not believe in abortion. It is not my Catholic upbringing; rather, I believe that the Church should condone condoms and that the Vatican should be dropping them from Popemobile helicopters all over the world. It is my personal belief that I have NO right to take a life, and, as long as there is a shadow of a doubt that the woman is carrying, it is not her right to choose. Most women use abortion as a form of birth control and the rape/incest percentages are very low. Perhaps a special concession can be made in those cases. I just cannot take a precious human life, and Clinton condoning late-term abortions was sick-but he was immoral anyway. I would like some feedback, as angry as it may be, but, nevertheless I am neither the Religious Right nor retarded.
Nobody is 'defriended' here for abortion views, but this is entirely another matter - opposing the use of the HPV vaccine, with mendacious claims, a safe and effective vaccine that could eliminate cervical cancer in women forever. This is the same crowd (identify them as you like, Bible belt , Orthodox Jews or whomever..) that can do serious damage to public health. Contemplating that Bachmann is considered a candidate for the Presidency of the United States, and supports this cretinism could ruin my whole afternoon.
The people who would think her able to lead this country are most likely also ones who would listen to Pat Roberts telling them that it's ok to dump your Alzheimer's-ridden spouse, equipped with a nurse so they can troll on christianmingle.com for a new model.
