Before we critcize Beijing about polution, I smell a fetid odor out in Los Angeles. I'm glad that I don't know how to drive! The bottom line about China is that it is a corrupt, oppressive goverment (unless you know the "right" people) and also they want Taiwan. They will never invade Taiwan, however, in my opinion, because that is not their style. The Japanese would. Anyway China is building up its military and selling arms to dubious countries, probably out of vindictictiveness because they know that we will atteck to defend Taiwan's freedoms. All I know, from my personal experience, is that the people are lovely and they are fully aware of the corruption in government. This period in China's history is actually the most peaceful, and my friend's either want to move here or stay there in the hopes of yet more peace to come.
